We have lost yet another of our own. I don't have clear details yet, but memorial services are tomorrow, Jun 10, 2011 at Denton Bible Chapel located in Denton, Tx.
I'll post as soon as I get more information.

Sentiments from Gary Gibson:

Buzzy was one of my best friends in the old RHS days, and I will always regret that we got separated over the years. Buzzy was one of my adolescent, best friend running buddies from Russellville, including Jim Alford, Gary Yearger, and Mike Bailey, spanning grade school to high school. And now they're all tragically gone before their time, not to mention others gone too soon, Ted Porter, Douglas Boudra, Libby Jones......too many. This is what it feels like to grow older.

I haven't seen Buzzy since the 40th reunion, but we had a great time catching up on 40 years of gossip on the drive from Dallas to Russellville. What an interesting life. Buzzy's golf career was particularly amazing, having actually met Ben Hogan. I had it on my bucket list to see if he would hook up with me to play Hogan's old course, Garden Oaks, or some other kind of silly RHS golf tournament redux. We'll never get the chance now. I will miss his e-mails. I could depend on him for a steady stream of funny and informative info on golf, politics, music.....on and on.

I attended the memorial service for Buzzy Dean last Friday. It was a nice tribute to Buzzy. Many of his colleagues, friends and family told of stories...some sad, funny, insightful but most of all showing a love for his faith, family, song and golf. His cousin told me about Buzzy throwing a putter across the golf course (imagine) and punching a guy in the nose for hitting into him while playing. (really can't imagine that!)It made me smile, remembering how he had kept his cool while trying (really trying) to teach me how to play. I stood up and said a few words during the service representing our class and myself. I've never done that before but felt I needed to say something about the school kid instead of the adult. I hope he was pleased.

He was very involved with his church, symphony and opera. I never had the pleasure of hearing him sing but according to those who had, I know he was very good.

He found he had cancer only 3 weeks before his passing. He had just married on March 5, 2011. I have tried finding an official obituary, but have not been successful. I'll keep trying.

Thelma, thank you so much for representing our class at Buzzy's memorial service. It was good for his family to know that many others will miss him too. News of his passing has really saddened me.
